Happy Birthday, Erin!!

Ms. D, soon to be Mrs. L, turns 29 today. But despite her occupancy of a different census age block, BlogSport still loves her. :)

A man who can clean up this effortlessly...

...and kick ass this thoroughly? YES PLEASE!

Just treated myself to a lazy morning of watching movies, including Transporter 2. The movie itself is a silly, barely-cohesive story; its main purpose is to give the filmmakers a reason to show glam shots of Miami, former models, and the eye candy that is Jason Statham. I appreciate that he plays to his strengths and takes roles that don't over-reach. I also appreciate that he is hot beyond hot. I am a woman full of appreciation.

In other movie news, PEbs and I checked out XMen: The Last Stand at midnight on Friday. It's obvious that Bryan Singer is not part of this one and it has a decidely different, but not bad, feel. Huge Jackman's wig this time around was foolish but other than that, great story, effects, casting (Colossus? Queue up behind Jason for my ogling pleasure), etc. I know it's gotten some lackluster reviews, and I can't help thinking what Singer would have done with it, but it was definitely worth the $9.50. Fucking Hoffman 22.

With paraphernalia like this, how could you not...

I saw one of these as I drove to work yesterday. If you want one they can be purchased here, alone with a "Support Hos" ribbon. The AFL-CIO must be so proud that the organization of labor continues to this day.

And a non-sequitur: on that same car I saw a big sticker for the DC Metro. Which seems to me to be contradictory; if you're so pro-Metro, shouldn't you not be driving?

HELLO, ANNIE!!!

Say hello to our latest confrere, GatorSexpress, now featured among the Link THIS entries at right. Dearest Annie has joined the fold to chronicle her general badassedness as well as her imminent departure from DC to Gainesville, FL for graduate school. Let's all make her feel welcome, hmmm?

Akeelah and the Bee? Excellent (although Spellbound is better). Paying $9.50 for a MATINEE? Bullshit.

Ramble on...

Ramble one: HOW amazing is it outside today? Sunny, breezy, bright. It just feels happy. I went by Capitol Hill Books to visit Matt and the bastard wasn't there, but I met his awesome and eeeever so slightly curmudgeonly boss Jim who graciously gifted me with a free book to make up for Matt standing me up. Then I moseyed into Eastern Market and bought corn-on-the-cob, chocolate ravioli and fresh strawberries to be consumed tonight at a cookout with PEbs. I'm also chilling some Wintergreen apple wine that I bought at a wine festival last fall. I am just seriously so happy. What a perfect day.

Ramble two: all month long Shape magazine has been running a "25 Days of Shape" give away sweepstakes where you have to register each day for different prizes--Asics footwear, Almay cosmetics, PowerMax energy bars, etc. I've been faithfully putting my info in (a la Lazlo Hollyfeld), including today. Knowing my karma I will instantly win todays gift....because I totally don't want or need it. It's a $500 gift set of Trojan condoms, oils, and other "sensual" goods--which are totally useless to someone who is sans significant other, as your ADD is at the moment. So that gift? SO MINE.

Happy Birthday, Des!!!

We're dropping like flies....another one bites the dust and turns 30 today. I think we should start having annual 29th birthday parties. As in, this is Des's 1st annual 29th birthday. Yeah. That'll work.

Happy Birthday to Quid-o-per

My brother Chris turns a whole 45 years old today. This weekend I spent time recalling all the times my brothers and sisters destroyed things and/or injured themselves as children. One Chris story involved him, all of 5 years old, accidentally setting fire to the apartment storage bins in a neighborhood building. It was found out before much damage was done and other kids did worse but the looks on Sam and Shelby's faces? Priceless.

Have a great day big brother, on this the 40th anniversary of The Fire.

Please say hello to the new love of my life:

Welsh cheddar w/ whole grain mustard and ale Manchego, available at Trader Joes. I thought maybe the mustard part would be too much for me, but little did I know the pure, unfettered lerv that awaited me upon purchasing this product. Get thee hence to TJs and procure with all due haste. Don't even fuss with the bread...just bite into that mack whole.

I was like Lindsay in her "geek" phase

Last night Pam and I went to a F&G marathon at Galaxy Hut. They do this Movie Mondays thing and last night it was my most cherished late-90s TV show. I love watching things like that with fellow adoring fans; it reminded me of seeing The Princess Bride at the DoG Street theater in Williamsburg when everyone was talking back to the screen Rocky Horror-style. It just feels good to be around so many people with the same good taste.

I will not give Kristin shit for tagging me because I actually love lists like this. Any excuse to talk about myself.

6 Weird Things About Me:

1. Following K’s lead, I’ll mention my head. It has a HUGE dent in it where the back meets the top. I’m surprised shampoo people at the salon will go near it. I asked my mom if I was ever dropped as a baby and she said no but a) I was poorly supervised and b) she would totally lie to cover her ass.

2. I hate standing water on sinks—as in, when someone washes their face and water splashes on the flat areas around the basin and then just stays there. Something about it totally grosses me out. I mentioned it at one of the first meetings of my freshman hall in college and made lots of instant friends. Or not.

3. I fall asleep listening to old detective radio shows on tape/CD; I need the dialogue to break up the never-ending thoughtstream in my head so that I can sleep. I’m partial to Agatha Christie and Paul Temple.

4. I am addicted to this and these and sugar-free chewing gum and lip balm.

5. I’m the youngest of 6 kids—same parents, no multiples. Also, there’s a 17-year age difference between the youngest and oldest.

6. I’m extremely near-sighted. My prescription is somewhere in the neighborhood of –12.5 in both eyes. I don’t know what the criteria for legally blind is, but I’m sure I fit it.

I now hereby tag Steve and Adam and Annie.

Run because you can

Dave, D, and I just ran with Team Sophie in this year's 5K. Many thanks to D for the invite!! We had a great time; how can you not when the weather is this phenomenal and the energy is all things positive and celebratory? Plus the backdrop was Pennsylvania Avenue, The Capitol, and The Mall--arguably the perfect urban setting. I'm quickly becoming addicted to this charity run idea, for totally selfish reasons. Who doesn't want to feel like a philanthropic badass before 9 am?

Happy Birthday Bryan!!

That high-quality Irishman, husband to Desiree and friend to all Cubs fans, turns 29 today. I raise my margarita to you!

Ah, so innocent looking

I had to lean waaaaaay down to get 5'11" (heels) below 5'2"

I wasn't...not... drunk

It's taken awhile but here are photos from Suzi's and my 30th birthday party. I've done all I can to prove (with photographic evidence; click on the links for albums*) that age does not equate with wisdom.

*No bystanders were injured in the flailing, white-man's-overbiting, self-portrait-taking, or sticking-out-of-tongue pictured herein.

What makes for the perfect run on the Mall (other than it ending?)?? Seeing one of these and one of these parked on the grass outside Air and Space. I have no idea why they're there, or if they're coming or going, but it made. my. day.
