Reminds of a story I saw detailing the abduction of a California woman in her late 20s, 8 months pregnant, from a "normal" background (no shady connections or habits that might make kidnapping less of a "WTF?" moment) who disappeared without a trace. This happened just before the whole Laci Peterson business and there was not story one about it in the news at the time--supposition being that because she was African-American, the story was not as compelling or newsworthy. Pretty disgraceful.
